Just A Small Town Boy (Part 1) | Moving To Willows, California
On December 27, 1951 DeLeon was born to Alfred and Gussie Mitchell in Fairfield, California. DeLeon was the 2nd child of five. His older brother Bernard Mitchell was born a year earlier (1950), and his younger brothers Richard Mitchell, sister Janet Mitchell, and youngest brother Tony Mitchell were born several years afterward.
Alfred and Gussie both dropped out of school and a lobe shortly after giving birth to their oldest son Bernard, and got pregnant with DeLeon less than 18 months later. As a result, DeLeon ended up with a rare bone disease known as Osteogenesis Imperfecta. His bones did not develop as strongly as they could because Gussie calcium level was too low while being pregnant with him.
During that time, Alfred found employment at C & H Sugar Cane factory in Vallejo, CA. Meanwhile, Gussie father decided to open a television repair business in Colussa County, CA. Since Alfred and Gussie where venturing into the adult world as teens, they decided to move to the small town of Willows, California not far from Gussie dad during the 1950’s.
